The Guiding Herbs Of the Be Gentle Collection

Every plant within the Be Gentle Collection was selected with intention and through the guidance of my ancestors. Each one carries its own presence, lesson, and purpose within the medicines. Yet two herbs appear throughout the collection as guiding and foundational allies for the journey: violet and rose.

Together, they carry the heart of Be Gentle.

Their teachings speak to tenderness, love, compassion, joy, emotional care, and the kind of protection that allows us to remain open without abandoning ourselves. They remind us that coming home to ourselves is not only about doing deep healing work. It is also about learning how to receive care, make room for beauty, honor our boundaries, and treat our own hearts with patience.

VIOLET: TENDERNESS FOR THE JOURNEY

The message I receive about violet was that she is an ancestral medicine that ties everything together. Violet carries the tenderness needed to walk this path. She is both the gift and the medicine for the journey ahead.

Within the spirit of the Be Gentle Collection, violet teaches us about love, softness, tenderness, and joy. She invites us to open our hearts and to remember that care does not always have to be earned through exhaustion, sacrifice, or overgiving.

Violet also offers an important reminder: love does not require us to overnurture, overextend, or abandon our own needs. We can offer care genuinely from the heart while remaining aware of our capacity. We can be loving without losing ourselves.

That teaching is central to the collection. Returning home to yourself includes learning to recognize when you need rest, nourishment, protection, comfort, or space. It includes allowing tenderness to be something you receive from yourself as well as something you offer to others.

ROSE: AN OPEN HEART WITH PROTECTION

Rose is also one of the collection’s guiding herbs. She carries the medicine of love, compassion, beauty, joy, emotional healing, and protection.

Rose teaches that opening the heart does not mean leaving yourself unprotected. You can be soft and receptive while still honoring your boundaries and tending carefully to your emotional well-being.

This is a lesson many of us are still learning. Sometimes we have been taught that love means saying yes when we mean no, remaining available beyond our capacity, or making ourselves smaller to keep the peace. But true tenderness does not ask us to disappear.

An open heart can still have discernment.

A compassionate person can still have limits.

A loving person can still choose protection.

Rose invites us to hold these truths together. She reminds us that self-protection is not the opposite of love; it can be one way we honor love for ourselves.

THEIR RELATIONSHIP WITHIN BE GENTLE

Violet and rose work in tandem throughout the Be Gentle Collection. Violet brings the tenderness needed to soften toward ourselves. Rose brings heart-opening compassion alongside the reminder to remain protected.

Together, they express the collection’s deeper invitation:

You can be gentle without being unguarded. You can be loving without abandoning yourself. You can make space for joy while still honoring the parts of your life that need care.

They support the work of returning home to yourself—not as a destination you must reach perfectly, but as a relationship you continue to build through small, intentional acts of care.

A RITUAL OF REFLECTION

Allow yourself a moment to reflect on the teachings of violet and rose over a cup of tea, a morning or evening walk, or while taking a relaxing bath.

You might ask:

  • Where am I being invited to soften toward myself?

  • What would it look like to offer myself love without overgiving?

  • What boundary would help my heart feel safer today?

  • Where can I make room for joy, beauty, or tenderness in this season?

There is no right answer. Let what arises guide you toward one small act of care.

AN INVITATION TO TEND THE HEART

The guiding herbs of Be Gentle are reminders that tenderness and protection can belong together. As you move through your own healing, transition, or becoming, you are allowed to honor both: the part of you that wants to open and the part of you that needs to be held with care.

May you allow yourself to be gentle. May you honor the wisdom of your heart. May you remember that you can be soft, loving, and compassionate while still protecting the space you need to grow.
